Phase Transitions of the Flux Line Lattice in High-Temperature Superconductors with Weak Columnar and Point Disorder

چکیده
We study the effects of weak point and columnar disorder on the vortexlattice phase transitions in high temperature superconductors. The combined effect of thermal fluctuations and of quenched disorder is investigated using a simplified cage model. For point disorder we use the mapping to a directed polymer in a disordered medium in 2+1 dimensions. For columnar disorder the problem is mapped into a quantum particle in a harmonic + random potential. We use the variational approximation to show that point and columnar disorder have opposite effect on the position of the melting line as is observed experimentally. For point disorder, replica symmetry breaking plays a role at the transition into a vortex glass at low temperatures. 74.60.Ec,74.60.Ge Typeset using REVTEX 1

Localized Flux Lines and the Bose Glass
Columnar defects provide effective pinning centers for magnetic flux lines in high–Tc superconductors. Utilizing a mapping of the statistical mechanics of directed lines to the quantum mechanics of two–dimensional bosons, one expects an entangled flux liquid phase at high temperatures, separated by a second–order localization transition from a low–temperature “Bose glass” phase with infinite ti...

Thermal fluctuations and disorder play an essential role in high-Tc superconductors. After reviewing the mean-field phase diagram we describe significant modifications that result when the effects of finite temperature and disorder are incorporated. Thermal fluctuations cause the melting of the Abrikosov flux line lattice into a vortex liquid at high temperatures, and disorder produces novel gl...
متن کاملTHEORY FOR DECOUPLING IN HIGH-Tc SUPERCONDUCTORS FROM AN ANALYSIS OF THE LAYERED XY MODEL WITH FRUSTRATION
The nature of decoupling in the mixed phase of extremely type-II layered superconductors is studied theoretically through a duality transformation of the layered XY model with frustration. In the limit of weak coupling, we generally find that the Josephson effect is absent if and only if the phase correlations within isolated layers are short range. In the case specific to uniform frustration, ...
متن کامل0 Vortex Matter and its Phase Transitions
The mixed state of type II superconductors has magnetic flux penetrating the sample in the form of vortices, with each vortex carrying an identical quantum of flux. These vortices generally form a triangular lattice under weak mutually repulsive forces; the lattice spacing can be easily varied over many orders of magnitude by varying the external magnetic field. The elastic moduli of this latti...
متن کاملVortex lattice melting in layered superconductors with periodic columnar pins.
The melting of the vortex lattice in highly anisotropic, layered superconductors with commensurate, periodic columnar pins is studied in a geometry where magnetic field and columnar pins are normal to the layers. Thermodynamic properties and equilibrium density distributions are obtained from numerical minimization of an appropriate free-energy functional. We find a line of first-order transiti...
